Goooooooo Cougars!

Whenever the air begins to get crisp at night, and fall is just around the corner, Paul gets excited that football season is almost here. This year, we joined the cougar's kids' club, and got some tickets to watch our favorite team. There's nothing like being there in Provo, seeing the beautiful mountains in the background, and hearing the shout song live from the band. We love our alma mater. And we are making sure that our girls loved it too!

We got tickets with the Burgesses (and thanks to them!). All girls in both families. Makes for a lot of fun together.

We had some great cheerleaders!

Yes, even this one was a good sport. Although she sent me on a mission impossible to find warm water or a microwave somewhere in the stadium. Neither are readily available. But we experienced our own little miracle and happened across some just before giving up. And we ended up in the cougar club room for some peaceful eating...who knew it was so easy to enter? I think I'll go there more often!

Even though we don't have pictures of them, we happened to see Dave and Sheila Zolman. So fun to run across old friends, even at the top of the bleachers. Dave was resourceful and found closer seats. Just like Dad Y. would have done. They are so much alike!

General Conference Weekend in Paradise

Fun times with cousins! The pictures say it all...

Random Pictures

Ivie's Throne
Before her mobile days, we found a perfect chair for Ivie to sit in. We often laughed as we looked at her just sittin' there. She looked like a queen on a throne.  Had to take a picture of this little darlin'.

There never was a baby more adored by her older sisters. They call her all sorts of names, such as "poofy" "poofy cheeks" "pussy" "puddy" & "Ivie Dive." Even the neighbors and friends call her something other than her name. I'm glad she still looks over when she hears "Ivie"!

Summer Rain
We had a ton of rain one day in the summer, and the girls were so excited to go out with an umbrella to experience it. For some reason, this was SO exciting! The simple joys.

Colorful Creations
Want to make young girls very happy? Give them puff paint and rocks. They loved making these treasures.

We needed something to do with all the sea shells we collected at Bear Lake, so the girls picked out their favorites, and got painting. I loved the finish product. So beautiful!

Missing Lucy
One of Grace's best friends moved over the summer, and she has missed her so much! Here's one of the many notes she has made for her. She tells how she gave Lucy her favorite Barbie. She hasn't regretted that gift one bit. When you've made your way into Grace's heart, she is loyal! And gifts are her love language.

Twinners
Just had to get some shots of these two girls in their matching dresses, since we never got around to a photo shoot.

A Visit From Pixie
Kendra came to visit with her new dog, Pixie. Instead of having our own dog, we just enjoy everyone else's...a lot!

Marta's Baptism
This was a very happy, very special occasion for us and our neighbors. Marta is an faithful woman, with amazing children who led by example and waited until their mom was ready to join them.

The Joys of Growing Up
It's such an exciting (and messy) time when a baby is ready to learn to eat. We get started on the early side (4 months), so that makes it even a little messier. Oh well. Still so loveable! Ivie loved this new adventure. She is a great eater.

Learning to sit up...Grandma's good ol' box trick

And learning to stand too. Ivie reminds us daily that life is exciting!

Sometimes...
it's fun to have a lollipop from the dollar store...just because you're a kid. But I'm sure these girls did their Saturday jobs really well that morning! Ah, the simple joys.

Almost
In October, we found a house we really liked. We loved the big yard and the Layton neighborhood. It was a short-sale. We made the first offer. The waiting game began. It was an exciting time. We got our home ready to sell, put the sign up (that felt so weird!). But then when we found out they were going to accept our offer, we no longer felt good about it. We realized how much we still love our home and neighborhood, and that we can de-clutter, organize, and squish for a while longer. Crazy! But it wasn't all a waste. A lot of lessons were learned. And we feel more grateful to be where we are for now. But sometimes I still like to remember how we almost moved.

Millie's Toothless Smile

We love this smile that's changing all the time. Millie will do just about anything to get her teeth to come out! She loves making an easy dollar. It's a fun stage for her to be in.

Cute Claire
We adore this girl every single day! I wish I could capter her cuteness in a picture, but it's hard to do. And for me, she is even cuter when she goes down happily for a nap (a skill that she lost when she turned 3).

Grace's Cat Birthday Party

Oh, boy! There was a lot of anticipation leading up to this day for Grace!! She chose a cat theme, due to her love of dressing up like a cat. Doesn't she make an adorable cat? It just kind of fits.

There's nothing like the anticipation for your first friend to arrive!

First, we turned our friends into felines...whiskers and cat ears for everyone (they were bunny ears that I transformed)

Say "meow"!

Then they made shrinky-dink collars

What a happy girl to have so much company! Ivie is a very social girl

And we played pin the tail on the cat...along with some other cat games

And swung at a cat pinata (we've made it this far without ever having a pinata--I'm guessing now it will be a must-have at every party. Oh, well. You're only a child once.)

It was so ironic when someone looked outside and noticed two mysterious black cats in our backyard. We figured they came for the party!

Then we had a cat cake and (ice) cream. And as we ate, we went around the room saying all the things we love about Grace. She is beloved!

And, of course, the presents!

We Love Our Grace!
Grace is an absolute delight to have in our family. She is a peacemaker, and a problem-solver. She is quick to compromise. She has a very compassionate heart, so when she can do something to help others, she will. One day she took Millie's punishment for her, out of pure love and compassion. We all want to be more like Grace. She gets so much happiness out of giving gifts. She loves to draw--everyday. And her artwork is almost always given away (mostly to Daddy for his art wall).

Grace also loves to enter the imaginary world of play. She loves her stuffed animals, polly pockets, barbies, and pet shops. She loves having playdates with friends so they can play with these toys together. If she doesn't have a friend over, she usually wants to be alone and uninterrupted. I love to listen to her characters talking with each other, because it reveals what is going on in her head.

Grace feels her emotions very deeply, on both ends of the spectrum. But in general, she is a happy soul! She loves life. She loves anticipating holidays (it's the decorating she loves most), events, places we are going to, etc. Her questions aren't usually "why?" but rather "when?" She is bubbly and energetic.

Grace is a finisher. She knows how to start something, and then plow through until it is done. This is most evident when she is doing jobs. She is a great cleaner, because she usually doesn't complain or put it off. She just gets to work and gets it done quickly. We know when we ask Grace to do something, we only have to say it once, and she will get it done usually right away.

Grace is very affectionate and loving. She often has big hugs and kisses for mommy and daddy, and tells us that we are the best in the whole world. She loves laughing and dancing with Millie. She finds humor in the cute things Claire says, and looks at me with a smirk of delight. She absolutely adore's baby Ivie. She is the one who has given Ivie most of her nicknames. She plays and plays with her, getting Ivie to laugh so much of the time.

Grace is exceptionally smart. Although she is still in preschool, she is reading the Book of Mormon each night and doing math computer games each day. She has very insightful answers to gospel questions we ask her. And she has a quick mind to remember what she has learned.

Our newest discovery about Grace is her love to perform. She loves to sing (we just got her and Millie into the Bountiful Children's Choir) and she plays the piano. And she wants to learn to play the flute someday. When she performs, she gets SO into it. She goes above and beyond with actions, and facial expression. When she is singing, she steals the show! She acts as if she is the only one up on stage, and isn't afraid at all to perform with all she has! It's so adorable.

There's so much more I could say about Grace and what we love about her. She is complex, yet simple.  Once you have made it into her heart, she will love you forever. And once you have met Grace, you can't help but adore her!
